Principal Jensen's Updates
CCHS athletes took advantage of a short week due to fall break to bring home a few State Championships. The victory light was on almost every night at CCHS starting Tuesday with a state semi-finals win by the girls soccer team. They put an end to Skylines season and advanced to the finals on Friday to meet up with the Spartains from Murray. The two teams started the season by facing each another in the season opener. The Chargers came away with the victory early in the season. The Spartains haven’t lost since that afternoon. The Chargers made sure that they were the only team to beat Murray all year by winning the State Championship, 2-1 on Friday at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Also on Tuesday, our volleyball team was in action taking on Timpview. It was a great battle between two very competitive teams. The Chargers eventually pulled out the victory with the scores of 19-25, 25-17, 25-12, 12-25, and 15-10. Sophomores and JV pulled out wins in their matches as well for the sweep over the Tbirds.
On Wednesday our Cross Country teams traveled to Sugar House Park/Highland High to compete in the Cross Country State Championships. Karli Branch, the defending State Champion, finished fourth overall for the girls. Mark Boyle finished second overall and helped the CCHS boys take control of the race and finish in first place as a team to bring home the State Championship.
Wednesday night the Region 7 football title was on the line as the Chargers traveled to Jordan. Both teams battled the entire four quarters. CCHS came away with a 28-20 win over the Beetdiggers. The opening round of the playoffs start next Saturday for the Chargers. Their opponent will be decided Tuesday night in a play-in game. Skyline, West, and Murray will all battle for a chance to take on the Chargers. The game will be Saturday at 12:00 in Charger Stadium.
The Mountain Bike Team was in action Saturday as they traveled to St. George with bragging rights on the line. When the dust cleared, the Chargers had edged out Lone Peak for the victory and another State Championship.
I hope everyone took the time to enjoy Fall Break as much as some of our student athletes did. Congratulations to all the coaches and teams that were in action over the long weekend.
This week is Red Ribbon Week and the PTA is kicking it off on Monday night with a presentation from Dr. Christy Kane. She will be presenting on Electronics and the Developing Brain. The event will be at 7:00 in the CCHS Auditorium. Students can receive attendance school credit for attending the event. They can also receive one extra hour towards attendance school if a parent attends with them.
The end of the quarter is Friday, October 26th. Monday, October 29th, is a teacher grading day.
Have a Great Week and Go Chargers!
